For the past few months we've been busy working on some pretty cool stuff. We have a lot of experimental features that are still undergoing some serious development but there is one specific feature that we'd like to share with you today.
We're pleased to announce the release of WebDAV for Uploadingit!
webdav
Some of you may not know what WebDAV is or might have only heard bits and pieces about it. In a nutshell, it's much like FTP but runs through HTTP and has a few more features. As of right now we're only releasing this to premium users to test everything out. We think we've ironed all the bugs out of it but theres always that chance something wont work right.
Here are a few highlights of the new WebDAV protocol:
- Simple URL, https://dav.uploadingit.com/
- Mount your Home Folder right to your computer
- Upload/Download files directly from WebDAV, no more webpages :D
- Modify files and keep the existing URL/Password/Tags
- Upload multiple files/folders at once :D
Just so you know
While you can mount your Uploadingit account…
New Hardware, It's On The Way

Its upgrade time and this time we have gone all out to make sure we have continued reliability as well as increased available storage space and big performance gains through out the entire service.

Over the past month we have been working hard behind the scenes finding the best solutions to go forward with. Not only will we have new main servers that will power the website and app services that you see but we have an all new storage solution that will allow us to store many times more files then we currently do.
This is what our storage servers look like

This is just one of two storage servers that will be used initially. Each server will hold 16 TB worth of your files that equates to 5 - 5.5 Million files per server. Each server is also protected against drive failure.
So whats going to happen?
Starting next week we are going to start by migrating all user data over to the new storage servers, during this time you should't notice anything different, and you don't have to do anything different. Just use the site as your normally would. Once all user data has been migrated we will send all traffic to the new servers. …

How secure is your data on Uploadingit?

Over the past few days we have received many questions regarding how your data is stored in response to the recent events surrounding Dropbox.

Below we've put together a list of how your information is used and how it is stored.

Account Information:
When we say account information we mean settings, display names and just about everything but files. Your account has two main parts to it, your Username (or Email) and your Password. These two items are unique for each Uploadingit account thus why they are needed to access your specific account. Passwords are not stored but instead a hash is created in its place. Basically that means your password is never stored on the server, only something it can be compared to. You can read more about how hashes work here: http://www.rsa.com/rsalabs/node.asp?id=2176

In order to read the data off our database you need your username and password, without them you could not access the database or even distinguish who's account is who's.

Files, Links & Sharing:
When it comes to your files you must realize that they are only as private as you want them to be. You as the user have the option of allowing to share entire folders, specific files or locking everything down so no one can access it but you. By default all folders are locked as for files, each file has a random shareable link that makes it highly improbable to guess the link of the file but not to worry…
